About this deal

The scene starting at 1:27:16 (1:27:12 on the 2016 BD) is also inherent to the original design, not a sync issue unique to the Atmos mix. While Stinger is briefing the pilots of the "crisis situation" in a full shot, his lip movement does not perfectly match the dialogue, very likely due to poor ADR work, not a failure in the transfer or the codec. This can also be seen and heard in its DTS-HD/Dolby TrueHD counterpart, but it's not as noticeable. The possible reason for why it is more apparent now is due to the higher resolution levels and our relative distance to the character as he speaks; we can better now see James Tolkan's lip movement than in previous video editions. P.S. – The iconic beach volleyball scene has been supplanted by a beach football scene. Sorry for the spoiler. Video: How’s it look? The new one looks great, naturally. It was filmed in the modern digital era, so a 4k release was always on the table. I never saw it in the theaters, so I can't say if this was the original way of things... but all the fighter plan sequences are in 16:9 and the rest of the film is in 2.35:1. I found this somewhat distracting, and I really don't know exactly why they made this choice. Much of the character-driven drama takes priority with precise, clear dialogue that remains that way above the commotion, allowing audiences to enjoy every emotional moment and hear every inflection in each of the performances. Impressively, those quieter, dialogue-heavy sequences are nonetheless layered with the commotion of people chattering all around in Penny's bar, or the busy commotion of military activity can be heard in the distance and from above while at school. Other such scenes taking place indoors even have a natural light echoing effect from the characters talking to each other. Imaging continuously feels broad and spacious with an exceptional sense of presence, as an assortment of noises fluidly travels between the three channels and into the front heights, creating a highly-engaging half-dome wall of sound that's sustained to the very end. At the same, an outstanding mid-range exhibits superb detailing and distinction in the upper frequencies during the loudest segments while the score delivers striking definition in the orchestration with warmth and amazing fidelity while bleeding all around.

I'm not going to review the movies here. Someone else has already done that, I imagine. I'm only commenting on the 4K experience. Music Videos (HD, 7 min) feature a pair of songs, starting with Lady Gaga performing "Hold My Hand" and the second with Onerepublic performing "I Ain't Worried." The original Top Gun is not as fantastic of a movie on a narrative level, but it was impressive for its time and remains an enjoyable movie for first-time viewers, with attractive visuals, awesome sound design, and great character moments. English Dolby Atmos, French-Parisian, Portuguese-Brazilian, Spanish-Latin American Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround, Japanese TV Tokyo – Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo Surround, Japanese Fuiji TV – Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono English, English SDH†, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French-Parisian, Japanese, Norwegian, Portuguese-Brazilian, Spanish-Latin American, Swedish A Love Letter to Aviation– A love letter from Tom Cruise and his personal love for the work and dedication as to what made this what it is.The aspect ratios vary between 2.39:1 and 1.90:1. It seems most of the land-based and non-action scenes are presented in the wider 2.39:1 format, while the airborne scenes all come closer to square IMAX format at 1.90:1. The taller format allows a bigger image that makes the scenes more immersive and closer to the action for the viewer. The audio is immersive and dynamic even with a pair of good headphones and a decent bass threshold. We tested on a pair of Apple AirPods Max, Bose, and Sony studio monitors and all sounded great. Of course, you don’t get that full spatial effect that happens in a controlled area with multiple speakers in surround sound positions.

Beautiful steelbook! Lovely glossy colours and really well chosen pictures to use. The film moments chosen are just a few of the shots that made the audience gasp in the cinema, as you can fully see Mr Cruise is once again, DOING the flying for REAL! The film itself is brilliant and I honestly thought “how can it live up to all the hype?!” Trust me, it does! There’s a reason it’s now amoung the ranks of highest grossing movies ever, it brought a lot of joy to people during the pandemic and especially those 80s kids like me who grew up loving the original! Even if not a big fan of the first movie, I’d put money on the fact you’ll enjoy this one more. Fantastic looking steelbook which looks even better next to the first ones equally beautiful 4K steelbook! I actually prefer the colours used on the Zavvi exclusive over other releases. Grab one if you get the chance! Pricing for the 4K SteelBook Superfan Collection has not been confirmed yet, but considering the humongous amount of features and memorabilia included in the set, one can surmise it’ll be quite a chunk of change. Cleared for Take Off (HD, 9 min) looks at the rigorous training of the cast & crew in the effort of accomplishing some of the astonishing action sequences with the fighter jets.
